“N’attendons pas M.Lapatine”
Solo exhibition at Galerie Antoine Levi.
23 May 2019 - 11 July 2019
N’attendons pas M. Lapatine invites the viewer into a deserted environment that recalls a semi public interior or a deteriorating passageway. Behind the half open door of M. Lapatine’s locker fragments of a private history appear both concealed and exposed. Personal remnants surface quietly within the space, suggesting an absent figure whose presence is felt only through what has been left behind.
Forms that once carried suggestions of vigor shift here toward a more fragile register. Phallic motifs soften into skeletal structures resembling the vulnerable underside of architecture.
Developed in situ, the installation unfolds against a broader urban condition shaped by gentrification and displacement. Rather than resisting the signs of wear, Vasiljeva’s work embraces processes of spatial aging and quiet transformation. The installation reflects her ongoing interest in the ambivalent relationship between historical social and natural temporalities and in the ways these different rhythms quietly overlap within the built environment.
N’attendons pas M. Lapatine was Vasiljeva’s final exhibition with the gallery, after which she chose to work without gallery representation.
