LONG FAREWELLS
solo exhibition
Pori Art Museum
20 March 2020 – 30 August 2020

Long Farewells engages with the Pori Art Museum through the building’s architectural ancestry. Before becoming a museum the structure functioned as a weigh house in the town port, a place where goods briefly paused to be measured evaluated and recorded before continuing their journey. It was a threshold space shaped by passage rather than permanence.

Within this context Vasiljeva’s works appear almost as temporary passersby. The exhibition unfolds as a layered arrangement of artifacts materials and media that gathers together works both recent and earlier. Objects arrive linger and shift position as if moving through a quiet process of transition.

The installation continues the artist’s long standing interest in the relation between display and backstage, between what is presented and what remains partially withheld. In this environment the boundary between the two becomes porous and the exhibition space begins to resemble a site of circulation where appearance preparation and disappearance remain closely intertwined.
