GROWING WILDLY
Group exhibition at Den Frie
16 January 2016 – 6 March 2016

The exhibition is a physical exploration of the book as body, the body in the book, and the tactile, psychological and intimate aspects of the book.

There are three tracks to the exhibition: an archive of artists’ books, an exhibition with eight contemporary artists, and a printing office run by Officin, where new books will be made during the run of the exhibition. These three tracks intersect to bring together the historical and static aspects of artists’ books, contemporary artists’ work with books, and the actual process of making books.

The eight, invited artists are Lea Porsager, Ola Vasiljeva, Rolf Nowotny, Anni’s & Mette Winckelmann, Absalon Kirkeby, Marianne Vierø and Jaanus Samma, all of who have the medium of print and the book as part of their artistic repertoire. For the exhibition they have all been invited to create a spatial, sensory reading of one of the books from the archive – or to relate to the archive and the book as a medium in a broader context. Their artistic approaches range widely from the strictly conceptual to the psychological and deeply intimate aspects of the book, but what they have in common is that each of them has created an entirely new work for the exhibition that relates to printed matter.
